Kenya Shippers Council (KSC)

“Achieving Logistical Competitiveness of Eastern Africa Cargo Owners through the Enhanced Capacity of The Shippers Council”

The Cost of Logistics in Eastern Africa is amongst the highest in the world which seriously cripples business and renders the region uncompetitive. There is poor adoption of best practices by shippers’ further rendering the transport and transit logistics inefficient, unreliable, ineffective and costly. The Shippers Council being the focal point of importers and exporters is currently deficient in institutional capacity to effectively achieve improvements in the logistics chain e.g. advocating and positively influencing change in regulatory, policy and business environment, providing knowledge through training in logistics services and global trends and engaging with service providers. The reduction in logistics costs will mean

  • Higher return on investment
  • Job creation,
  • Poverty reduction

The EA Trade Hub grant will strengthen the Council’s institutional capacity to regionally provide member services, lobby governments and RECs. By doing so KSC will expand its membership which will leadto greater recognition and sustainability. The services provided by Shippers council will support the import and export industry in reducing the cost and time of transport and logistics. Reduced costs will lead to enhanced competitiveness of the Eastern African region including Eastern DRC and Southern Sudan. This will subsequently lead to economic growth and poverty reduction.
